Isle Of Skye 8 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky (750ml)

SKU #1046113 Whisky Advocate

What a surprise! Really thick and malty for a blend (there’s a high malt content here for sure), and also nicely mature for 8 years old. Great balance too, with the island aggressiveness tamed by a rich, malty elegance. Delicious honey, toasted oak, firm peat, dark chocolate, and glazed citrus meld nicely with the malt, leading to a honeyed, lightly-peppered finish. Very enjoyable. (JH, Fall 2009)

K&L Notes

The Isle of Skye is perhaps the best deal on whisky in the entire store, a perfectly balanced, blended malt that is sure to appeal to even the most strict single malt drinker. Made with mostly Talisker, it is very supple thanks to its high proportion of carefully selected Island and Speyside malts. It is one of the few blends which carries an age statement, defining its age by the youngest whisky in the blend, but most of the malts in Isle of Skye are much older. Crafted by world-renowned Ian Macleod Distillers, it is a big favorite of our store manager Alex Brisoux and spirits buyer David Driscoll. Jim Murray of Whisky Bible wrote, "One of the most enormous yet brilliantly balanced whiskies in the world." All this for a "young" blend? Believe it. The Beverage Tasting Institute Writes: "Pale amber color. Aromas of honeyed biscuit and delicate spice follow through on a round,s satiny entry to a dryish medium-to-full body with warm buttery praline and delicate peat notes. Finishes with a long, warming peppery spice and mossy stone fade. Excellent vibrancy and seamless texture. Serve with a splash of spring water." (4/2009)
