2004 DuMol Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
*Three Stars* Leading with dense, very deep aromas of dark cherries, cocoa and wonderfully rich oak, this powerful Pinot signals early on that it is not a run-of-the-mill effort. It is as rich and as potent on the palate as promised, yet despite its heft, its extravagant oak and its unabashed ripeness, it is still defined at every step of the way by its beautifully rendered varietal fruit. While some will no doubt be tempted to call it a bit heavy, it is actually surprise-ingly well-structured and its keen sense of balance moves it to the very head of the class.

The 2004 Pinot Noir Russian River is a blend of six different cool climate vineyards. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by scents of plums, allspice, forest floor, and sassafras. With good acidity, medium to full body, and considerable ripeness, structure, and definition... Kudos to DuMol, one of the brilliant shining stars of the North Coast Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah sweepstakes. (RP)
Very charming, supple and harmonious, with layers of plum, black cherry and raspberry fruit that's fresh and refreshing. Finishes with a burst of dark fruit flavors, turning delicate. (JL)

Good full red. Very ripe aromas of strawberry, smoke and earth.Broad and ripe but fairly dry, with red berry flavors enlivened by tangy acidity. Initially came off as slightly dry on the finish, with fine tannins, but showed sweeter red fruit flavors and suppler tannins with aeration. (ST)
