 One of my favorites and a whopper of a wine that at 16.4% alcohol, there is not a trace of heat or palate burn in this large scale very concentrated Chardonnay. Very full and sweet notes of orange blossoms and assorted citrus oils, wet rocks, in a full-bodied, very well delineated, crisp and fresh style. This wine shows no oak whatsoever, and seems extremely young and set for a very long life, although there is no reason defer your gratification. (RP)  (11/2013)

 From some of the oldest Chard vines in the area comes this dramatically rich wine. Bursting with lemon drop, Meyer lemon mousse, peach pulp and toasty new oak, this is a very ripe wine whose high alcohol, 16.4%, shows only as a dusting of white pepper and spicy clove that makes the finish piquant. Santa Maria/Santa Barbara

- Santa Maria and Santa Ynez make up the two AVAs of Santa Barbara County, an area known for its natural beauty and temperate climate. The best grape-growing areas, however, are located on the very coastal reaches of these two appellations, and are cooled by ever-present fog and ocean breezes (it is even cooler and foggier here than Carneros!). As expected, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive while the more inland zones lay claim to Bordeaux varietals and some Rhône blends.
