1979 Suduiraut, Sauternes

SKU #1020139 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

One of the top 1979s, Suduiraut has produced an uncommonly rich, deep, powerful wine for this vintage. The wine is medium golden, with a ripe, toasty, caramel and apricot-scented bouquet, full body, plenty of viscous fruit, and a long finish. (RP) (1/1998)

K&L Notes

"With a lengthy history comes a list of accomplishments and triumphs. Such is the case for Château Suduiraut, which dates to the 17th century. Not only did Suduiraut achieve First Growth status in the classification of 1855, they also were one of the pioneers in grafting vines onto American rootstock to thwart the scourge of phylloxera. For this, credit goes to Emile Petit de Forest, who owned and oversaw the Suduiraut at the end of the nineteenth century. Today, at its best, Suduiraut produces a deeply colored, honeyed wine of great richness and complexity." (Stephen Tanzer)

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
