2003 Turley "Dogtown" Lodi Zinfandel (Previously $80)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From Lodi, the deep plum/ruby-hued 2003 Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard offers a huge nose of earth, roasted herbs, sweet pomegranates, cherries, briery mountain fruit, and a peppery, alcoholic finish.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Dark red. Exotic dried berries, pepper and spice cake on the nose. Fat, sweet and lush but with very good vinosity thanks to harmonious acidity. A huge wine with a strong chocolatey character and some obvious alcoholic warmth. This is likely to give greatest pleasure over the short term.
Turley Wine Cellars makes thirty-four wines, the vast majority of which are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. By focusing on old vine vineyards in particular, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture. All of the vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and they use all natural yeasts in the fermentations.
