1999 Lisini "Ugolaia" Brunello di Montalcino
Sweet plum and berry aromas follow through to a full body, with ripe, pretty fruit, silky tannins and a round, juicy finish. Still a little chewy. Could use a year or two more of bottle age. Best after 2010. (JS, Web-2010)
Intoxicatingly smoky nose, like fine wood burning slowly on a cold night. The mouth is jam-packed with vanilla, chocolate and cream as well as black cherry and dark currants. Sweet and easy throughout, with a touch of coffee on the finish. Lovely, chewy stuff. (MS)
Lisini's 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolaia presents generous sensations of over-ripe jammy fruit and alcohol with great concentration and expansiveness on the palate and a sublime, long finish. (AG)
Wine & Spirits
Classical in tone, with flavors of preserved cherries and cracked black pepper, this wine begins on a funky mushroom note, then finishes clean, with lovely, lasting red fruit. Ready to decant for osso buco.
