2000 Fieuzal, Pessac-Léognan
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Aromas of lead pencil, tobacco leaf, licorice, and creme de cassis are offered in an outstanding, medium to full-bodied, concentrated style. There is tremendous purity as well as flavor dimension. This opaque ruby/purple-colored offering is one of the finest de Fieuzals produced over the last decade. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2022.
Lively, healthy colour. Good concentration. Extremely lively and brilliant in the glass. Elegant, well melded and easy to drink relatively young with food - although there is no shortage of ripe tannins underneath. A deliciously well balanced mouthful.
Tasting notes courtesy Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "Showing impressively at en primeur. Then at the MW vertical in November 2004. The nose is still quite closed with faint notes of blackberry, cranberry and tobacco. The palate has good balance, chewy tannins with rounded plummy fruit. Good acidity, very good weight on the mid-palate, muscular though the finish is much smoother and feminine Fieuzal that merits a few almost like a Margaux. Excellent. Drink from 2010. 89-91 points."
