Elijah Craig 18 Year Old Single Barrel Kentucky Bourbon (750ml)

SKU #1005102 98 points Wine Enthusiast

The nosing passes find lovely fragrances of baked pears, peach, caramel corn, hazelnut, newly tanned leather, baked pineapple and nougat. The palate entry is long, luxuriously textured, nutty and semisweet; at midpalate deep flavors of vanilla extract, oak, honey and sugar maple are added. Ends with finesse. Sensational and one of the benchmark single barrel bourbons available.

This Bourbon was worth the investment of time and effort that the folks at Heaven Hill distillery put into it. Of the many (I am scared to count!) nice Bourbon's that I have open at home, it has become my favorite after dinner drink. They use wheat in the recipe for this Bourbon rather than rye as the flavor grain, and it has a mellow, smooth character that is typical of wheat. The Elijah has plenty of complexity and has not dried out and "gone to wood" like many older Bourbon's can. It is a full and rich 18 year old, with flavors of vanilla and cinnamon complementing the ample texture. I am sure I will need to buy another bottle soon!

- When people consider domestic wine, they normally think about the state of California. The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. But there's plenty of fabulous wine coming from other states, too. Oregon, Washington and New York are also causing eyebrows (and glassware) to be raised around the world.
