2000 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Good bright medium ruby. Highly aromatic nose of cassis, crushed blackberry, violet, cola, cedar, mint chocolate and shoe polish, with enticing spicy high tones. Sweet and lush but penetrating, with lovely vinosity giving shape to the black fruit and mineral flavors. Surprisingly expressive in the middle palate but finishes with youthfully tough, molar-coating tannins that will require at least four or five years of bottle aging.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2000 is a mid-weight, elegant effort with lots of black currant, violet, earth and forest floor characteristics. Medium-bodied with excellent ripeness and sweet tannins, it is one of the more successful wines I have tasted from this vintage. The wine is close to full maturity and should keep for another 10-12 years. (RP)
Trim and focused, with a tight, vibrant mix of mineral, dried currant, cedar, spice and loamy earth notes that are complex and mature. Ends with drying tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. 2000 California Cabernet blind retrospective (August 2010). Drink now through 2015. 15,000 cases made. (Web-2011)
