1999 Niebaum-Coppola "Rubicon" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
A wonderfully refined wine, with firm, ripe tannins that fream an elegant blend of rich plum, balckberry, coffee, chocolate, cassis, black cherry, cedar and spice flavors. The finish is long and smooth, with a bright cherry boost at the end. Francis Coppola's benchmark wine.
*Collectibles* Enormously complex, smooth and sophisticated, with layers of currant, blackberry, earth, plum and cedary oak flavors that are woven together nicely. Finishes with a long, intricate aftertaste and tannins that are firm and integrated. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

The 1999 Rubicon is a stunning, inky/purple-colored offering revealing a sumptuous bouquet of smoked meats, barbeque spice, creosote, black cherry, truffle, dried herb, and compost-like characteristics. Full-bodied, rich, and dense, with well-integrated acidity as well as an extravagant richness, this stunning Rubicon can be drunk now and over the next 15-20 years. (RP)
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Good medium ruby color. Very aromatic, ripe nose hints at violet and a leafy franc note. Sweet, juicy and suave, with black cherry flavor nicely firmed by bright acidity. Highly perfumed in the mouth; bright and firmly built. Offers the clarity and grip that the '99 Cask cabernet misses. The tannins hit the palate late. May well merit a higher score with a few years of additional bottle aging. 90+ (ST)
