As a whole, the 2013 vintage was brilliant, offering the perfect conditions that allowed for classic renditions of Barolo that combine impeccable balance and harmony with a sublime level of refinement. 2013 Giovanni Manzone "Gramolere" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($49.99)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is Giovanni Manzone's headline Barolo. At 13,000 bottles made per year, production numbers are more than double the other Barolos in his portfolio, so this wine is reasonably easy to locate as a result. The 2013 Barolo Gramolere is an articulate and exuberant expression of contemporary Nebbiolo. It sees a 40-day maceration period for extra color and structure, plus 30 months aging in both botte grande and tonneaux. It reveals a dark color and medium body with black cherry, spice and licorice aromas that lift elegantly from the bouquet. (ML)" (10/2017)

93 points Vinous: "Manzone's 2013 Barolo Gramolere is gorgeous. Aromatically lifted, precise and nuanced, the 2013 has a lot to say. The flavors are bright and finely cut in this super attractive, mid-weight Barolo from Manzone. This is an especially refined style for Gramolere. Pine, sweet red cherry, mint, orange peel and anise shape the delicate, silky finish. The Gramolere is the most accessible of Manzone's stellar 2013s. (AG)" (10/2017)

2013 Giovanni Manzone "Bricat" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($54.99)

95 points Vinous: "Dark cherry, plum, lavender, mint, wild herbs and smoke infuse the 2013 Barolo Bricat. Dark, powerful and brooding, but also very much medium-bodied in structure, the 2013 is wonderfully complete and full of allure. There is plenty of tannin, but the wine is impeccably balanced from start to finish. The darker and more muscular side of Gramolere comes through very nicely. There is so much to like, but the 2013 also shuts down quickly in the glass, which suggests it is likely to require a good few years in bottle to fully come together. (AG)" (10/2017)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made with a selection of fruit from older vines, the 2013 Barolo Bricat is a tightly knit wine with extra power and support at the back. This is a long-term wine that promises a slow and graceful evolution over the next ten years. The wine needs that time to soften and to find its center. In its current state, this Barolo is brimming with possibility. The bouquet is dark and brooding with blackberry and tangy aromas of spice and smoky ash. This new release has a long life ahead. 94+ (ML)" (08/2017)

2013 Giovanni Manzone "Castelletto" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($47.99)

95 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barolo Castelletto is another superb wine from Manzone. Beams of Castelletto tannin and bright acidity give the wine its super-distinctive feel. A wine of focus and drive, the Castelletto will appeal most to readers who enjoy taut, vibrant Barolos. This is another superb showing from Manzone. (AG)" (10/2017)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Barolo Castelletto offers a frank and accessible personality that opens this wine up to near and medium-term drinking. It offers vibrant, youthful Barolo aromas of dark fruit, tar, licorice and white truffle, and although those elements will become finer and more elegant with time, they already taste great now. This is a bright and beautifully intense wine that offers a friendly and disarming approach. Some 6,000 bottles were made. (ML)" (10/2017)

2013 Cordero di Montezemolo "Enrico VI" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($94.99)

96 points James Suckling: "A big and powerful Barolo with chewy tannins and lots of fruit and structure. Full body, chewy tannins and just so much fruit. Layered and complex. Just a baby. Drink in 2022" (01/2017)

95 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barolo Enrico VI is fabulous. The deeply spiced bouquet, firm spine of tannin and dark fruit are all signatures of this renowned Castiglione Falletto site. Explosive and powerful yet very much medium-bodied in build, the 2013 exudes pedigree. Succulent black cherry, menthol, licorice, cedar and new leather add the final shades of nuance. This is one of the best young versions of the Enrico VI I can remember tasting. (AG)" (02/2017)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine's incense, French oak, woodland berry and iris aromas slowly take shape in the glass. On the firmly structured, focused palate, vanilla, menthol and espresso notes accent its red cherry and pomegranate core. Close-grained tannins leave a firm, tight finish, needing time to unwind. Drink 2023-2033. (KO)" (11/2017)

93 points Wine Spectator: "A modern style, with vanilla and toast elements embracing plum, leather, soy and tar flavors. Has grip, but also an overall equilibrium and a lingering, savory aftertaste. Closed up now, but reveals a sweet fruit core. Best from 2021 through 2036. (BS)" (11/2017)

2013 Cordero di Montezemolo "Gattera" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($84.99)

96 points James Suckling: "Extremely floral with sweet tea, plums and strawberries. Full body, chewy tannins and a gorgeous finish. This is focused and muscular. Try in 2020." (01/2017)

94 points Vinous: "The 2013 Barolo Gattera is sensual, open-knit and quite expressive. Red cherry, plum, mint, chocolate, leather and deeply spiced notes shape this radiant, supple Barolo from the Gattera vineyard in La Morra. The 2013 naturally needs time to soften, but it's only a matter of time before the wine's inviting personality is on full display. Scents of rose petal, chocolate, sweet red cherry and a dash of French oak add sweetness through to the finish. Naturally, the 2013 needs time to soften, but it is quite expressive, even today. (AG)" (02/2017)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Menthol, French oak, exotic spice violet and red berry aromas take center stage. The full-bodied, enveloping palate delivers dried Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, licorice, espresso and cinnamon framed in youthfully assertive close-grained tannins. Give this time to fully unwind. Drink 2023-2038. (KO)" (10/2017)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Cherry and plum flavors are wrapped in spicy oak here, with accents of tobacco and tar. Bright and polished, showing a sense of refinement and fine length. Best from 2021 through 2035. (BS)" (11/2017)

2013 Cordero di Montezemolo "Monfalletto" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) ($48.99)

94 points James Suckling: "Very floral with dried strawberries, plums and light toffee. Smoke, too. Medium to full body, velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. Turns polished and agreeable on the finish. Drink in 2018." (07/2017)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wild berry, aromatic herb, crushed blue flower and exotic spice aromas lead the way in this full-bodied wine. It delivers ripe but elegant Marasca cherry, cranberry, licorice and vanilla hints framed by taut, fine-grained tannins that lend structure and finesse. Drink 2021-2033. (KO)" (10/2017)

92 points Vinous: "Cordero di Montezemolo's 2013 Barolo Monfalletto is radiant, open-knit and quite pleasing, even at this early stage. The 2013 has more than enough fruit to play off its tannins and acidity. Sweet red cherry, plum, blood orange and pomegranate give the 2013 its racy, bold personality. The 2013 has a bit more depth and mid-palate pliancy than the 2012 tasted alongside it. I would prefer to drink this stylish, mid-weight Barolo over the near and medium term. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. 92+ points. (AG)" (02/2017)

90 points Wine Spectator: "Eucalyptus, rosemary and juniper aromas and flavors make this red more savory, with sweet cherry, leather and spice notes in the wings. Finishes on the firm, astringent side. Best from 2019 through 2028. (BS)" (11/2017)
