The Return of an Incredible Le Mesnil Champagne Value - Pierre Mineral Now In-Stock - 04/20/2017 - Champagne

Last Fall we offered the 2008 vintage of Pierre Mineral's stunning Grand Cru Le Mesnil Champagne for under $40 and couldn't keep it on our shelves for more than four hours. This year's allocation, although limited, is now in-stock and we expect the same kind of excitement for another thrilling vintage. We also nabbed a small amount of the equally tantalizing "Vielle En Fut" which outclasses it's modest price-point by a mile. For those looking for under-the-radar Champagne with a big upside, look no further.

Both wines get their fruit from Grand Cru "Le Mesnil" that produces two of the most celebrated and expensive wines from Champagne (and beyond!) when attached to names like Salon and Krug. The 2009 vintage bottling of Pierre Mineral Le Mesnil easily goes toe to toe with the magnificent '08 and is one of the great values in bubbly store-wide. The "Vielle En Fut" bottling has our Champagne buyer calling out names like Selosse's Origine and Tarlant's Cuvée Louis. Both wines, like the last set of releases, drink well above their price-point and aren't long for the shelves. Secure your allocation before they're gone.

2009 Pierre Mineral Blanc de Blancs Brut Champagne ($39.99)

All Mesnil grand cru bargain!!!! This wine comes from all estate-grown fruit in the grand cru of Mesnil. It is a very clean wine with pure flavors and a complex, subtle nose. The texture is silky and delicate, but the finish is quite powerful. This is a very stylish wine, and a very good deal thanks to a direct buy from the producer. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

The Pierre Mineral is in strong contention to be the best value in Champagne at K&L. This 2009 vintage Champagne is made exclusively from Mesnil Grand Cru chardonnay. Champagne from this terroir almost always come at a much higher price, and vintage Champagne from Mesnil command even more of a premium. An incredible direct buy has enabled us to bring you a fantastic price on this clean, racy super long finishing Champagne. If you love Champagne with crystalline purity, vivacious energy and a finish that won't quit, this is a slam dunk. Will it keep in your good cellar? The 1973 that I drank recently was one of the best old Mesnil Champagnes that I have ever tasted!

Pierre Mineral "Vielle En Fut" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne (Mesnil Sous Bois) ($49.99)

This Champagne is made entirely from selected grand cru estate fruit from the village of Mesnil. It is fermented and aged in 600-liter new-oak casks before being bottled and aged four years on the lees. It has a super rich nose of vanilla, sourdough toast, and Mesnil minerals. In the mouth it's very racy and dry, not nearly as broad as the rich nose suggests. I think this is one of the ultimate lobster Champagnes in our stock, and will repay five years of cellaring with a gorgeous drink. If you love Selosse's Origine and Tarlant's Cuvée Louis, this is one to try for sure! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

This Champagne is almost too good to be true. It is made entirely from estate grown Mesnil Chardonnay, 50% of which is 2012 that spends six months in 600 liter oak barrels, and 50% reserves from the previous year which spend a full year in oak. This creamy, balanced blanc de blancs is not oaky in flavor at all, yet has the seamless texture that only wood treatment can bring. It is a super dry, mineral Champagne with finish that won't stop. It is hard not to compare it to the Krug Clos du Mesnil, which is also barrel fermented pure Mesnil! While it doesn't have the extra age of this famous bottle, it sure is good... and 1/20th the price!
