Your Everyday Summer Sipper Has Arrived - Scrumptious And Priced Right - 03/20/2017 - Italy

While our friends on the East Coast might beg to differ given the recent onslaught of wintery weather, Spring and Summer are in fact rapidly approaching. This has us thinking about all the wonderful white wines to enjoy while relaxing on the patio. Recently our Italian wine buyer, Greg St. Clair, came across in what can only be described as the perfect find. The 2015 Ronco Blanchis Pinot Grigio is lithe, light, and immensely refreshing - all the qualities one looks for in a summer sipper. But this 2015 is hardly a one trick pony as it is graced with layers of ample fruit and a core of minerality, making it every bit engaging as it is quaffable. For true wine lovers, when it comes to warm weather whites, it doesn’t get much better than this. What’s more, we were able to get this top-tier bottling for a terrific price, so we’re selling it for several bucks less than its standard retail price. If you’re going to load up the refrigerator with one white this summer, let this be the one.

92 points James Suckling: "Complex aromas of sliced apples, lemon curd and hot stones. Medium to full body, beautiful fruit and a bright finish. I like the layered texture to this." (11/2016)

A wine of this quality and pedigree from Italy's Collio region is normally several dollars higher in price so we're doubly delighted to offer this top tier Pinot Grigio at $15. Because it's from Collio, you'll notice a bit more complexity, weight and texture than is normally found in most Pinot Grigios and it continues to impress our customers. Although it's wonderful as a starter wine, don't hesitate to pair it with fish, soups, poultry and egg dishes.

A bold nose filled with the spice and minerality common from the soil of the region. The palate is long and clean with lifted citrus notes and a long mineral finish. There is also a beautiful weight on the mid palate stemming from the exceptional 2015 vintage that grows and develops with complexity as the wine opens in the glass.

What a steal! This is a perfect example of the marl and clay from the Collio DOC. Not only do you have the great fruit of golden apples and citrus - but you get a wonderful minerality and salinity too. A little more textural than you might expect for the typical Italian style of Pinot Grigio, there is just enough body to satisfy and stand up to a rich meal. Top marks.

The Collio region is usually thought of as one of Italys premier white wine growing areas and the bounty of incredible wines from the stellar 2015 vintage continues with this exceptional Pinot Grigio. The nose is full of white flowers and ripe pear that are forceful and dynamic, too often I find PGs to be rather one note and simple but this wine has real depth in its aromatics. On the palate the wine has weight, and a luscious texture, it has no wood yet still shows a creamy texture but accented by vibrant acidity that brings the focus back to the center. The finish is lengthy, a replay of pear and spice highlighted by the crisp acid that slices into the wines luscious richness.

The 2015 Pinot Grigio has really nice concentration, ripe apple, and peach stones, with hints of lemon peel and wet stone. Medium-bodied, with a good grip and a long, memorable finish, great for just sipping on in the evening or would love something with a lot of spice.
