Muscadet Infatuation - 09/12/2013 - Loire Valley

With so many fantastic wines within an arm’s length, I try to never let myself get too involved with a certain wine. But sometimes I fall really, really hard. The Symbiose from Delhommeau has put me on a path that I just don’t want to get off. I first fell for this wine while tasting with Michel & Natalie Delhommeau over at their place on a cold, windy drizzly day in Muscadet. At the time, the wine had yet to be imported into the U.S. I knew that this had to change and change fast. We are now proudly working with the second vintage of this wine and don’t see any reason to stray from the path of Symbiose… (Eric Story, Loire Buyer)

2011 Michel Delhommeau "Symbiose" Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie ($14.99)

This one is showing absolutely superbly! The "Symbiose" is a selection of vines which are grown in amphibolites soils. Sharp steely minerals, up front brightness with nice reach across the palate and a good juicy length. Just a touch more density across the palate with a broader sense of texture reaching through the finish.
