Germano Barolo Pre-Arrivals - 08/09/2013 - Italy

Sergio Germano makes Barolo in the tiny commune of Serralunga where it is easy to have wines of enormous power and structure, the key is to make them balanced, elegant and not lose their intensity. In this vintage Sergio’s wines are amazing, they show such purity, real flavor of Serralunga which is generally more earth and woodsy but in this vintage a riper layer of fruit is sandwiched in between. Layers of complexity coupled with supple fruit richness really make this 2009 vintage for Sergio exceptional and one of the best he’s produced. The 2007 Lazzarito Riserva is just another layer up of richness, power and aromatics a tru Riserva and will be worth the wait! The Serralunga communal version and the Ceretta are aged in 700 liter barrels - that’s about 3 times the size of a barrique and what we refer to as a wine barrel. The Prapo’ and Lazzarito Riserva are aged in 2000 liter barrels which is more than 30 barriques. We think you’ll love these wines, very limited quantities so don’t wait. - Greg St. Clair, K&L Italian Wine Buyer

Please note these are offered on a pre-arrival basis and are due to arrive at the end of October.

2009 Ettore Germano "Serralunga" Barolo - 0 available ($39.99)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Barolo shows great structure and a fuller frame to support the generous fruit and spice tones woven deep within its texture. Theres a very immediate and soft quality to the fruit that means this young Barolo definitely needs more time to find focus and voice. Give it another three to five years. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2025." (06/2013)

2009 Ettore Germano "Ceretta" Barolo - 0 available ($59.99)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Ettore Germanos 2009 Barolo Cerretta shows added layers of spice and tobacco that play a supporting role to the generous fruit layers. The warm 2009 growing season has left its mark in terms of the ripeness and softness of the fruit. The Cerretta does a very good job of containing all that fruity generosity within thefirmer context of its tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028." (06/2013)

2009 Ettore Germano "Prapò'" Barolo - 0 available ($59.99)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Barolo Prapò perhaps takes that ripeness to the extreme limit. In addition to black fruit and plum, this wine lavishes over a thick layer of oakinspired spice, tobacco and cinnamon. The style will appeal to those who enjoy full-bodied Barolo with more density and heft. It definitely needs more time in the bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2028." (06/2013)
