(Top 100 Wines of 1999 - #29) Very complete, this is wonderfully complex, smooth and well-focused, with currant, fresh tobacco leaf and sweet pepper flavors, ending on a pleasantly earthy note. Drink now through 2015. (Web 2011)
Full bright ruby. Vibrant, pure aromas of cassis, blackberry, mocha, tar, bitter chocolate and violet. Round, rich and sweetly oaky; a large-scaled, mouthfilling wine with lovely fresh fruit and nicely restrained sweetness. Still youthfully tight and in need of time to develop more complexity. Finishes with big tongue- and toothdusting tannins. (6/ 2002)
The dense purple-colored 1999 Les Pavots exhibits sweet aromas of cassis, tapenade, cherries, licorice, and subtle wood. It is medium-bodied, with a cool climate textural profile, noticeable tannin, and a Bordeaux-like finish. (8/ 2002)
