This property is on the border of St-Julien and the Haut-Médoc, quite close to Beychevelle and Branaire-Ducru. A classically styled Bordeaux with plenty of complex earthy flavors and cassis fruit. Needs one hour decanting and then it blossoms forth. No new wave flashiness here, just solid good Cabernet flavors. This is the style that made Bordeaux famous!

Tasting notes 3/11/2014.... it was the consensus that this wine is drinking better than it ever has. Maybe it woke back up but lots of life in this wine still. Layered with dried currants to cassis with black olive and tea with cedar and spice. This is drinking really well. Tasting notes 7/5/2011...With a 5 vintage vertical of Lanessan in the store right now we just tried all 5 with the staff.The 98 was some of the staff's favorite. The nose showed cassis, tea, mushroom and damp earth. The cassis had a perfumey quality to it that came through on the palate all the way through the finish along with spice.. Some astringency remains but this wine is ready to drink now.

So good! If you like old style Bordeax these are for you, and they are exceptionally well-priced. In September 2011: The 1998 Lanessan is a sturdy wine with some mineral undertones and dusty aromas. Decant it and it blossoms. Will cellar a few more years. Serve with cassoulet.

This production is medium ruby in color, with aromas of currants and cherry-like tones, and creamy, cedary notes. In the mouth, this Gem is soft, integrated, fleshy, and long. Nice wine for near-term consumption. Rusty has made this one of our house reds for the month.13.0% ABV

This is a deal in classic, aged Bordeaux for anyone with a "old world" palate. Firm and completely dry with flavors of dark cherry, oak and spice, this is just beginning to show mature hints of cedar and leather. This cabernet based wine still shows the structure of the vintage so decanting is recommended.

Wonderful aroma full of luscious berry with a smooth finish. Should be drunk now, no decanting necessary.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends

- Cabernet Sauvignon has come a long way from its role as a blending varietal, however dominant, in the wines of Bordeaux. Today it is the most planted red varietal in the world. Identified as a descendent of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be planted in warmer climates to fully ripen. Its small berries can easily be identified for their distinctive blue color, thick skins and high tannins. And while the varietal has its own definitive characteristics: green pepper-like aromas and black currant flavors among them, it is perhaps most prized for its ability to convey terroir, vintage and winemaking. A relatively new varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon started making inroads into the wines of the Médoc and Graves in the late-18th century. Today it is also dominant in the up-and-coming Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux and can also be found in Southwest France. It is the companion varietal to Sangiovese in Italy's Super Tuscans and is planted all over Europe, stretching to lesser-known winegrowing regions like Russia and Lebanon. In the Americas Cabernet Sauvignon has found champions in every nook and cranny of California and among winemakers in Washington, where it complements plantings of Merlot. In South America, Cab thrives in Chile, but can also be found in smaller amounts in Argentina and even in Mexico.
