Springbank 15 year old, Distillery Bottling Single Malt Whisky 750ml

SKU #620014 96-100 points Wine Enthusiast

The complex, understated bouquet finds aromas of barley malt, seaweed, heather, oaky vanilla, honey, sherry cask, scrambled egg and minerals. The palate entry is oily, buttery and oaky sweet; by midpalate the flavors include assertive tastes of marzipan, marshmallow, baked pear/peach pastry and bacon fat. Finishes with a luscious fruit/grape thrust. A masterpiece. (4/ 2008)

Whisky Advocate

Powerful, mature, and nicely rounded. Similar in some ways to the Springer 10 year old 46% reviewed below, with the addition of toasted coconut and caramel. Itís also more rounded and with greater depth. (Vol. 16, #3)

K&L Notes

From the distillery: "As the eye takes in the dark, russet colour of the 15 Year Old, the nose anticipates the rich sweet smell of the sherry casks used to mature this age of Springbank. The anticipation is rewarded as you remove the cork and allow the sherry aromas to drift out. However the sweet nose on this dram only begins to suggest the full range of flavours which emerge on the palate; dark chocolate, figs, marzipan, brazil nuts and vanilla all mingle to DRAMatic effect! Warming and elegant on the finish."

Richer and more mellow than: Port Charlotte Peat. Much less peaty than: Talisker 10. Kinda maybe like: Cragganmore 12. I got butterscotch candy and salty, nutty notes a little like a Jura whisky from a sample of this dram; it's got nice lemony, butterscotchy notes that are appealing.
