Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs Sparkling Wne

SKU #480010 90 points Wine Enthusiast

Made from Pinot Noir, although the color is golden straw, and the wine is light and airy in the mouth. The raspberry and strawberry flavors are the giveaway. Absolutely delicious, with a refined mouthfeel, and the price is a bargain. (12/ 2010)

K&L Notes

Odd as it may sound, Domaine Chandon is a Pinot Noir house. For more than a quarter of a century, their Brut, Blanc de Noirs and Reserve have been based upon Pinot Noir and its cousin Pinot Meunier. In an effort to showcase these noble red varietals, they created a unique and distinctive style of Blanc de Noirs in 1974. Since then, this fruit-driven, full-flavored sparkling wine, featuring Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, has become one of their most popular wines. Itís forward and generous with intense ripe Pinot Noir fruit and lush complex flavors.

Domaine Chandon was the first French-owned sparkling wine venture in California. Established in 1973, they have led the way in production methods and farming practices. They were also the first domestic producer to introduce Pinot Meunier into their sparkling wine. The Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noir is a great reflection of their style, focusing on Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The grapes come primarily from their Carneros property, which has the cool climate to provide great structure and backbone to the wine. It has a delicate salmon color with flavors of strawberry and black cherry. It is a fruit-driven style with a creamy texture and finish.

Chandon Blanc De Noirs is a beautiful, delicious champagne: velvety, refreshing with well-balanced fruit. It's a terrific value at under $20. I served it at my wedding and guests raved about it. It would be a great hostess gift.

Surprisingly good for CA and for the price. Fruity, yeasty nose. Prefer it to the Blanc De Blanc which is a little one sided. Great as an aperitif and as a breakfast cocktail with egg dishes etc.
