1997 Pine Ridge Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon
Very solid and deep, with a bouquet of delicious black-currant and dark-cherry fruit and toasty, buttery oak. Very comfortable mouthfeel. Full, with layered fruit and a long and elegant finish that sports big but not sharp tannins.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The dense ruby/purple-colored 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap offers red and black currants intertwined with gravelly, vanilla notes. Elegant, sweet cassis, licorice, and earthy flavors are present in this nicely-concentrated, medium-bodied, pure, graceful Cabernet. It should drink well for 10-12 years.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright ruby-red. Spicy aromas of cassis, licorice, shoe polish and menthol. Tightly wound in the mouth, with the wine's moderate sweetness currently dominated by a strong oakiness. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins. Not yet showing its personality.
