Fresh, dark ruby-red. Dusty, liqueur-like aromas of black cherry and cassis, with a scotch-like hint of oak. Sensuous and silky in the mouth; superripe but quite bright, thanks to sound supporting acids. A bit more sharply delineated than the above. Very youthful wine, finishing with a slow-building, very long aftertaste. Tannins are substantial but fine-grained. (6/ 1999)
The outstanding 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville offers an opaque purple color, and knock-out aromas of creme de cassis, vanillin, and weedy tobacco. Full-bodied, rich, and muscular, as well as complex, this fleshy, deep wine is immensely impressive. As it sits in the glass, blueberry/blackberry aromas emerge, adding to its overall appeal. Anticipated Maturity: 2001-2020. (12/ 1998)
Firm, rich and supple, with a focused core of cherry, currant, anise, sage and cedar, and the oak in the background. The finish turns firm and mildly tannic. (9/ 1999)
