Fonseca has scored in both the 1991 and 1992 vintages. The 1991 Guimaraens is the most impressive bottle I have tasted of this offering. The opaque purple color, and sweet, copious aromas of cassis, licorice, and flowers, are followed by a supple, rich, full-bodied, precocious tasting port that is already easy to drink. While it will be quick to develop, it still requires another 4-5 years of aging. It is extremely impressive because of its sumptuous texture and rich, pure fruit. (2/ 1995)
Fabulous blackberry and berry aromas follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate. Medium sweet, with a refined, silky finish. Still shows tannic astringency, but superlong and gorgeous, with a chocolate character. Just starting to be ready. '91/'92 Port retrospective. Best from 2006 through 2016. (5/ 2005)
