2012 Raccaro Malvasia Collio

SKU #1164327 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2012 Collio Malvasia is a pungent and fragrant white wine that shows soothing aromatic intensity and enough inherent sweetness to pair with spicy Asian dishes. Malvasia is one of the most planted grapes in Italy and when done well, as in this case, you wonder why it is so often brushed off as a workhorse grape with little potential. Its taste profile is specifically well suited to match many of our favorite spicy ethnic foods. Drink: 2014-2015. Dario Raccaro is a boutique producer with a pure and genuine winemaking approach. He prefers stainless steel and cold stabilization for the whites. He has five hectares of vine, including the Vigna del Rolat that is often a source of Friulano rootstock. The quality of the fruit from this vineyard is immediately recognizable. (ML) (12/ 2013)

What a complex and well-done Malvasia! The Roccaro boasts notes of Fuji apples and honeysuckle with a brightness and crisp acidity coming across on the palate with zesty lemon rind notes balanced by a waxy texture and some sweeter stone fruits. An absolutely beautiful expression of Malvasia.
