Lehmann "Jamesse Reference" Grand Champagne glass (ship as 6pk *in styrofoam only)

SKU #1161841

This is the most exciting new piece of glassware that we have found at K&L in many years, and the very best thing that we have to enjoy Champagne from. Philippe Jamesse is the Sommelier at Chateau Les Crayeres in Reims, the luxury destination for the Champagne region. He's tasted more great Champagne thoughtfully than almost anyone in the world, and partnered with Reims glassware manufacturer Gerhard Lehmann to produce one of the greatest glasses ever made for Champagne. The tulip shape of this glass allows for a very pretty stream of bubbles to develop from the bottom of the glass, while the generous 450ml size allows room for the aromas to develop. Traditional flutes are too narrow at the top for one to smell the wine, and pour the wine in a very narrow stream across the tongue. Regular wine glasses make Champagne look flat. The Jamesse gets it just right! *These can ship only by the case of 6 in styrofoam. Non-lead

Earlier this Spring, I was able to visit Lehmann glass in Reims one (fairly early) morning. After the initial eye-googling in their showroom, where the array of glasses and their collection of glass Champagne buckets dazzles, we were able to sit down and look at the Jamesse line. The star of which, for me, is their Champagne series. The "Reference" Grand Champagne glass is the little brother to the "Prestige" glass. He is just as attractive as his big brother but, a little heavier. Not overweight, of course. Just more sturdy. Like his brother, he has a great nose and bubbly personality. He's also less expensive to have around. Seriously, for me, this is THE glass to have at home for your everyday Champagne needs. It is beautiful to look at, Sommelier certified and very, very affordable. So, you won't feel bad if you break one after that mag of Cristal!

What do our kitchen cupboards absolutely NOT need? Another wine glass. But I have to give credit where credit is due. This is a lovely glass for champagne. A hybrid in-between flute and white wine glass, the tulip shape allows the wine even more expression and yet still shows off the beautiful bubbles. I am so taken by this new glass I'm worried my flutes might get a bit dusty!

I first tasted Champagne out of these glasses at the luxurious Relais and Chateau "Les Crayeres" in Reims, and immediately dreamed of carrying them at K&L. A few years later, the cellar master at Ruinart, Frederic Panaiotis brought Cinnamon and I pair as a gift, and we have been using them for special bottles ever since. This year, Scott and I had a chance to visit Gerhard Lehmann, the glassware manufacturer in Reims who produced them, and now they are finally here. I was shocked to find what a value price these great glasses sell for, since I believe that they are some of the very, very best in the world for the enjoyment of Champagne. Try them out, I promise that you will pick up new complexity in old favorites!

When our Champagne gurus Gary and Scott came back from Champagne this year raving about the glassware designed by Philippe Jamesse, I certainly took notice. These Champagne glasses are a bit more open and less flute like than standard flutes, and highlight the complexity of Champagne beautifully. Among the best Champagne glasses we've ever used, they are also an incredible value for both the mouth blown and machine made versions. If you love Champagne you owe it to yourself to try this glass.
