2013 Zudugarai "Amats" Getariako Txakolina

SKU #1161463

Amats is both the brand name of the txakoli as well as one of Zudugarai's vineyards. It's a beautiful vineyard, a sandy substrate covered in naturally growing green cover between the rows, with the Cantabrian Sea in full view to the north. Produced from Hondarribi Zuri grapes, this is classic Txakoli: zippy, crisp, tart green apple flavors are enlivened by a lovely sparkle from the CO2 retained in tank during fermentation. Try this refreshing, vibrant, low in alcohol white wine with a wide range of foods - from obvious choices such as seafood (grilled sardines or cured anchovies would be a few of my favorites) to more substantial fare. Of course, I would not argue with this wine being serve as an aperitive as well! (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)

It’s so hard to find excellent txakolina for under $20, but thankfully Mr. Manekin managed to do it. The Amats is essential for beach trips, relaxing on the couch, or fresh grilled sardines. This wine is so versatile and complex, with notes of lemon basil, slatey minerality, lime zest lemon citrus, and sea salt with fantastic acid and a touch of effervescence.

I'm in love with this Txakolina! High toned acidity, lime zest, bracing minerality...like licking wet stones from a mountain stream. This is one of the most refreshing wines out there.

Racy and delicious! Love this zesty, fresh, mouthwatering little wine. Lime peel, coriander, white flowers and crunchy green apple. Great seafood wine, ultimately refreshing and palate cleansing. Ummmmm!

Serious props are in order to Mikel and his crew at Zudugarai, for organically producing a delicious, thirst quenching, picture perfect Txakoli in a very challenging 2013 vintage. With production down significantly, and demand every bit as strong locally, Zudugarai still maintained their pricing, which means that we can do the same and once again offer to you one of the tastiest, most gulpable dry whites around for a price that is much lower than most other Txakoli. Buy it by the case, which now that I think of it is only 6 bottles so better make it two!

Our friends at Zudugarai Amats bring it again! Zippy freshness with a hint of fizz and low alcohol- delish! Lime zest, mineral, green pear with a lively acidity that makes me reach for the bottle to pour another glass. It's time to kick off your shoes, break out the aged Manchego, olives and Marcona almonds, grab a glass, and hit the patio- it's Txak-O'Clock somewhere!
