2013 Doisy-Daëne, Sauternes (Pre-Arrival)
A model of total grace and understatement, the 2013 Doisy-Daëne is drop-dead-gorgeous. Freshly cut white flowers, mint, sweet spices, pears and lychee all meld together in the glass in an effortless, gracious wine. The soft, intensely floral, crystalline finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. The 2013 Doisy-Daëne impresses for its superb drinkability. If I was going to buy only one moderately-priced Sauternes in 2013, Doisy-Daëne would be it.
Albeit youthfully raw, this is stunning already, with gorgeous, creamed Jonagold apple, melon, pineapple and white ginger notes all melded together and backed by a long finish that drips with almond, honeysuckle and orange blossom.

Denis Dubourdieu has a created a fine Doisy-Daene, with attractive white peach and honeysuckle on the precise bouquet, which exudes wonderful transparency. The palate is very well-defined with fine acidity, the oak deftly integrated. It gradually builds in the mouth: harmonious and refined with great composure towards the long and satisfying finish. This is one of the finest Barsac wines of the vintage. (NM)

Palish yellow-gold. High-toned but closed on the nose today, hinting at honey, lime, ginger and grilled nuts. Then quite pure and aromatic in the mouth, offering flavors of fresh citrus fruits, saffron and honey complicated by a botrytis-related smoky bitterness. Perfumed and nicely delineated on the long finish, showing lively snap thanks to zippy acidity. Lovely wine.
Honeyed, viscous and fleshy. Really heavyweight, indulgent stuff. Modern, tropical fruit character -- needs matching with the richest desserts.
