2013 Ameztoi "Rubentis" Rosé Getariako Txakolina

50% hondarribi beltza and 50% hondarribi zurri): Light, lurid pink. Fresh red berries and white flowers on the mineral-driven nose, with a touch of orange zest adding interest. Nervy, focused and pure, offering vibrant, lightly bubbly red berry and citrus zest flavors sharpened by bright minerality. Finishes bright, crisp and long, with emphatic repeating notes of red berries and dusty minerals. A bottle of this wine always disappears quickly.
It is a miracle that Ameztoi was able to pull off this rosÚ in a harvest as tricky as 2013. That said, they not only pulled it off, but also made their friendliest, most forward, juicy rosÚ to date. Perhaps only a smidge lacking in the usual nerve, but maybe that impression owes more to the recent shipment than anything else? Still, a delicious wine to gulp down as always! Ameztoi produces some of the tastiest, most representative and classic txakoli: the delicious, bright, slightly petillant (fizzy), low alcohol wines which are consumed like water in Spanish Euskadi (Basque Country). Vineyards are a stone's throw from the ocean, full of verdant, green cover throughout the year. This rosÚ is super limited, with something of a cult following in the Bay Area, New York City and beyond. Get some before it disappears. Yes, it's every bit as delicious as you have heard. Some white wine grapes (Hondarribi Zuri) are fermented and then the wine blended in with that produced from the red grapes (Hondarribi Beltza), which explains the precise flavors and beautiful pale pink color.
