2010 Amisfield Pinot Noir Central Otago (Elsewhere $40+)
Dense, rich Pinot Noir with impressive weight and mouth feel. Silken smooth, almost unctuous red with plum, licorice and spice flavours. Big, powerful wine that's generous and very serious. A fruit driven style but solidly structured to prevent any suggestion of overt sweetness. Classy wine.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
90+ points. Medium to deep ruby-colored, the 2010 Pinot Noir displays a slight reduction on the nose to begin before giving way with aerating to notes of black cherries, black raspberries and mulberries, plus hints of tar, coffee and anise. Medium to full-bodied and more elegant in the mouth than the nose suggests, it offers a fine array of red and blackberry flavors with a good backbone of medium level, grainy tannins, lively acid, and a long finish with a pleasant herbal lift. Drink it now to 2017+. (LPB)
A bolder, more expressive style, with ripe dark berry flavors highlighted by a bright acidity, giving this a sleek profile. Veers pleasantly into details of forest floor, black truffle and cigar box. Drink now through 2019.
