This is made by Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat. Aged in 75% new French oak barrels, the 2009 "Les Reveles-Elke Vineyard" Pinot Noir is a complex, earthy style, with floral and spicy red fruit aromas and flavors accented by notes of cherry and sandalwood on the zesty finish.

Ripe cherry, raspberry, oak toast on the nose. The palate is quite savory, full of spicebox, wild red fruit, and underbrush. Medium weight, with a long, earthy finish. Anderson Valley fruit really shows here!

I’ve had a thing for the Ici/La-Bas wines for years. I was always trying to hunt them down in years past to no avail. They seemed to always be in reach but yet just out of my grasp. I just had to have Anderson Valley Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from one of my favorite winemakers. Finally they are here and I couldn’t be more excited with what is in the bottle. If you are a fan of wines that show off a place rather than the persona of a winemaker look no further. I can think of very few wines from the Anderson Valley that taste, so, well, Anderson Vally-ish. Rosemary, anisette, beet root and piney bark combine on the savory, earth driven nose. Tangy from the moment this enters the mouth and developing a wealth of exotic spices as it unfurls its layers one after another on the mid-palate. Plum, sassafras, green/foresty underbrush, white cherry and a solid framing of oaken spice make this not only entirely drinkable but a wine that also is horribly underappreciated and unknown. It was very hard to pick our favorite Pinot Noir among so many great choices Ici La Bas offers, but at the end we were charmed by this little Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. Small dense ripe cherry fruit, very clean and focus. Savory, baking spices (75% new French barrel) and big lush mouthfeel. There is A LOT of flavor pack into the bottle for only $25 bucks; what's not to love?

This wine really displays the more savory-side of Pinot Noir. Notes of dried fennel, flowers and and exotic spice, this wine is showing some development in the bottle. Earthy to the core, this Pinot also exhibits classic red fruit aromas and flavors on the palate, as well as a bright refreshing acidity. A great bottle to drink and ponder over the course of an evening!

Pinot Noir

- One of France's most legendary grapes and the grape that earned Burgundy its reputation. The parent of varietals like Pinot Gris/Grigio and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir is blue to violet to indigo in color with relatively thin skins, and it is said to have been cultivated in France for more than 2,000 years. At its best, Pinot Noir creates elegant wines that are filled with primary red fruit aromas and flavors while young, revealing with an array of secondary characteristics like earth, smoke, violet, truffle and game with age. The varietal is also known, perhaps better than any, for its ability to translate terroir, or a sense of place. While the best Pinot Noir still comes from Burgundy, it is being produced with increasing success in cooler climates around the world. In France, it is part of the trifecta of grapes that can go into Champagne, and it is also grown in Alsace, Irancy, Jura, Savoie, Lorraine and Sancerre. Outside of France it is produced under the names Pinot Nero and Blauburgunder in Italy's mountainous regions, as Spätburgunder in Germany and as Blauburgunder in Austria. In the US, Pinot Noir has found suitable growing conditions in the cooler parts of California, including Carneros, the Russian River Valley, the Anderson Valley, the Sonoma Coast, Monterey County, the Santa Lucia Highlands and Santa Barbara County, as well as in Oregon's Willamette Valley. In recent years, New Zealand has demonstrated its ability to interpret this hard-to-grow varietal, with successful bottlings coming from careful and attentive growers in Central Otago, Martinborough and Canterbury. Chile is also an up-and-coming region for Pinot Noir, creating fresh, fruit-forward, early-drinking and affordable Pinots from the coastal Casablanca Valley and the Limari Valley.
