What an amazing wine! Sourced from a perfectly sited, cool cellar in Basque country, this wine is showing amazingly youthfully. With its expressive fruit, roasted coffee bean aromas, and hints of roasted meat, the palate is very elegant. Initially it shows an elegant, meaty quality, with tasty fruit and a sense of balance that brings to mind excellent quality St.-Julien - this is a classic example of Rioja's occasional tendency towards a Bordelaise style. After some time in a decanter, this wine really comes into its own, showing marked chalky minerality, brighter fruit, and even tannins that begin to assert themselves somewhat. While this is beautiful now, there is no need to rush as this will clearly be drinking impeccably well for at least another decade. Remelluri, whose vineyards have been situated and cultivated for centuries up against the Toloņo mountains in the village of Labastida, is one of the first modern, single estate Rioja's (along with Contino and LAN's Viņa Lanciano). It is a jewel of an estate and has a track record of producing wines that age incredibly well. * Please note that this wine is a pre-arrival, due to arrive in November 2014.

Tempranillo

- A very important red grape varietal that's native to Northern Spain, grown across the north and central regions of the country. Low in acid and alcohol, with subtle strawberry, leather and tobacco notes, the grape responds well to oak aging and plays particularly well with others. Tempranillo is an important component, when combined with Garnacha, Mazuelo, Viura and Graciano, of Rioja, with the best examples coming for the cooler, higher-elevation regions like Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. It is also grown in significant quantities in the Ribera del Duero where it is called Tinto Fino and Penčdes where it is called Ull de Llebre o Ojo de Llebre. Tempranillo hasn't gained a particularly strong foothold outside of Spain, achieving some success under the name Tinto Roriz in Portugal. There it is used as a component of Port and in the table wines of the Ribera del Duero and the Dão.
