2012 Oldenburg Vineyards Chardonnay Stellenbosch
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2012 Chardonnay has a subtle, understated bouquet with hints of almond, potpourri and wild heather emerging delicately from the glass. The palate is nicely poised right from the start - a fine line of acidity and an agreeable sense of linearity and focus. This is a more neutral Chardonnay, but it works very well and allows a nuanced marine element to come through on the finish. This is very fine indeed. Drink now-2017. (NM)
A ripe, rich style, with creamed melon, pear, fig and plantain notes lined with butter and toasted macadamia nut accents. Offers a plump, lush finish. For fans of the toasty, broad style. Drink now.
A powerful introduction for Oldenburg into the US market and a K&L direct import! Leading with their best foot forward, Oldenburg's Chardonnay is a rich, concentrated wine with plenty of toasty oak and creamy mouth-feel that is sure to please lovers of bigger California chards. However, it also retains plenty of focus and drive in the finish. The wine shows layers of baked orchard fruit, ripe melon, peanut brittle and crème brûlée. Some spice and vanilla characters from the French oak lingers on the finish with some lovely mineral tones shining through. The wine is well balanced and elegant with a streak of bright acidity running through this richly flavored wine. An exceptional value in Chardonnay.
