2010 Guardian "Gun Metal-Connor Lee Vineyard" Columbia Valley Red Wine (Previously $43)
*Editors' Choice* The Gun Metal red is a Bordeaux-style blend-a smooth, seamless mix of spicy red fruits with new barrel highlights of coffee grounds, toasted walnuts and baking spices. There’s a lick of citrus running through it also, a testament to the natural acidity that adds life and lift to Washington state reds.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Gun Metal (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) is a classic Bordeaux blend that gives up knockout aromas and flavors of leaf tobacco, black currants, pencil shavings and assorted spice as well as a full-bodied, balanced palate that has outstanding mid-palate depth, excellent overall purity and freshness, and ripe tannin. Seeing the most oak of the lineup, with 20 months in 80% new French oak, you wouldn’t know it and it has ample fruit. It should be even better in another 2-3 years and have 15 years or more of total longevity. Drink 2015-2025.
Finely wrought, with a supple feel to the black cherry, nutmeg and black tea flavors as they course through the expressive finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2018. 450 cases made.
