2011 Vina Robles "Red 4" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

SKU #1153365 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

A blend of 35% Syrah, 25% Petit Sirah, 25% Mourvedre and the rest Grenache, the 2011 Red 4 is a juicy, straightforward red that gives up plenty of ripe fruit, licorice, toasted spice and charred earth to go with a medium to full-bodied, fruit-forward feel on the palate. It’s very well made, has integrated acidity and a clean, very drinkable style that is ideally suited for enjoying over the coming couple of years. (8/ 2014)

K&L Notes

A blend of four grapes: Syrah, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Mourvedre, mostly from the Huerhuero Vineyard in Paso Robles. Scents of red cherries and plums give way to anise, caramel and spice and carry over to the fresh, medium-bodied palate.

Rich, perfumed fruit jumps from the glass carrying over to a palate of baked blackberry and plum, candied cherry, earth, cigar box smoke & spice, and soft tannins. Great weight and texture are this wine's calling card and it will be a hit at any summer BBQ.

The Vina Robles Red 4 offers a lot character for $15! Very reminiscent of a village-level Cote du Rhone, it bursts from the glass with notes of red fruit, casis, cedar, herbs and smoke. This wine has plenty of ripeness and concentration on the palate, but finishes dry and honest. This is a great wine to keep in mind as we head into the summer party season.
