2012 I Clivi Ribolla Gialla

SKU #1151302

"When I started looking for a producer in Friuli," writes importer Oliver McCrum, "I was after indigenous varieties, great work in the vineyard and not too much intervention in the cellar, and vineyards in either Collio or Colli Orientali del Fruili, the two best areas of Friuli. I Clivi meets all of those requirements. The wines are the best kind of terroir expression...All of the wines are grown organically, and are cleanly but very naturally made, expressive, distinctive and mouthwatering...Ribolla Gialla: Complex, distinctive grape variety showing notes of herbs, citrus, almond, flowers; the structure of I Clivi's version is very mineral, very fresh, obviously a wine for food but I love it as a dry aperitif too, mouthwatering."

It is rare in todayís wine world that one can find complete phenolic ripeness, a really intriguing wine full of mineral focus and is only 11.5% alcohol, yet thatís what Mario Zanusso has been able to do with this scintillating Ribolla Gialla. Ribolla Gialla is one of Friuliís indigenous varieties that ripens very slow and rarely achieves an alcohol level above 13% but in this wine Mario does a tremendous amount of testing waiting for the perfect moment of ph, acidity and sugar to produce a fully flavored wine and delicious wine that is super easy to drink. Light, refreshing yet not a simple wine at all, perfecto for shellfish pasta like Spaghetti con Vongole.
Drink from 2014 to 2016
