Vivid red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry and cherry, marked by notes of Asian spices and blood orange that add complexity. Densely packed, but lively red and dark berry flavors provide excellent palate coverage and pick up a smoky note with aeration. Supple and sweet on the finish, which leaves notes of candied red fruits behind. This sexy wine is drinking well now.
Always at the top of the Chilean Pinot heap is this true, complex wine from Kingston Family. The nose features light raspberry, citrus, oceanic brine and toasty, creamy oak. The palate is lush and rolls across the tongue with ease; ripe fruit in the cherry zone along with cocoa and spice make for fine flavors. Finishes with purity, smooth tannins and herbal twinges.

The 2009 Alazan Pinot Noir was aged in 30% new French oak. It delivers more aromatic complexity than the Tobiano cuvee with its display of Asian spices, incense, and assorted red and black fruit elements. Velvety and sweetly-fruited in the glass, this nicely proportioned Pinot will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring and provide prime drinking from 2013 to 2021. (JM)

This Chilean-by-way-of-Portola Valley, California family winery continues to make some of our favorite vinos Chilenos. According to Courtney Kingston, her wines show a "gout de Casablanca," a distinctly smoky and mineral tinged quality which she believes mark her red wines. We would tend to agree with that description. If you're looking for Chilean Pinot with a wonderful balance between fruit, mineral and savory flavors, then look no further.
