Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Medium red. Exotic aromas of strawberry, gingerbread, orange peel, dried flowers and leather. Juicy, spicy and exotic, with enticing peppery lift. An elegant, tangy Chateauneuf with a silky texture and lovely inner-mouth energy. Finishes with very fine tannins.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2001 Pignan Chateauneuf du Pape reveals a deep color along with an enticing nose of black cherries, prunes, figs, and resiny pine needles. There is good sweetness on the attack, medium body, excellent depth, and firm tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2015. (RP)
Elegant, herb and mineral dominated Châteauneuf, with dried cherry and plum notes in the background, and an elegant, balsa wood- and mesquite-tinged finish. Deceptively structured too, this may put on weight in the cellar. Drink now through 2009.
