 The 2011 Botanica Chenin Blanc spends twelve months on its lees. It has a light resinous nose with hints of passion fruit and dried pineapple that displays fine focus. With aeration, there is a mote of candied orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a light, green apple and orange zest finish. Remarkable wine from remarkable vineyards. The source for this wine are some of the most rugged and remote vineyards in South Africa. 50+ yr old gnarled, dry farmed vines produce tiny yields of this intensely flavored juice. Winemaker Giny Povall simply lends a very gentle guiding hand crafting it into a wonderfully pure and transparent wine. Firm stone fruits and barley grains form the main flavor profile, the acidity freshens on the back end like squeeze of Kafir lime like zestiness. A crushed granite mineral element adds complexity to an immensely drinkable wine!

Chenin Blanc

- Also called Pineau de la Loire and Pineau d'Anjou. Chenin Blanc is an expressive white French varietal that makes beautiful dry, sweet and sparkling wines. Traditionally grown in the Loire Valley, the wines made from this varietal are typically labeled geographically. Vouvray Chenins are traditionally medium-sweet; SavenniŤres Chenins are typically bright and crisp; Coteaux du Layon Chenins like Bonezeaux and Quarts de Chaume are among the world's most sought-after sweet wines, and the sparkling Chenins of Saumur are perfumed and delicious. What all of these iterations of the grape have in common is their ability to age, a gift bestowed upon them because of the grape's naturally high-acidity.
