Can Mayol Loxarel "999" Cava Brut Rosé Penedes

SKU #1146232 91 points Wine & Spirits

There’s intriguing complexity to this firmly structured rosé, a meaty wine that’s dry without feeling tannic. The mousse is finely integrated into the flavor, set to lift the flavors of duck confit or roast quail. (8/ 2012)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The Loxarel 999 Rosat is made up of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Trepat. Salmon pink in color with persistent small bubbles, it is a tasty wine best used as an aperitif. (5/ 2011)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Orange-pink. Musky red fruits, herbs and flowers on the nose, along with a hint of underbrush. Taut redcurrant and bitter cherry flavors are braced by gentle acidity, ultimately showing a slight tartness. The brisk, dry-edged finish features good persistence and an echo of bitter cherry skin. (11/ 2011)

K&L Notes

Produced from a blend of organically grown Pinot Noir and Xarel-lo grapes, this is a very delicious, bone dry style of rosé. If you like your bubbly dry, really dry, then you will love this - it's got great tangy red fruit flavors, truly bracing and brisk stuff, but with a wonderful texture and liveliness as well. This is clearly very skillfully and carefully crafted sparkling wine from proprietor/vigneron Josep Mitjans. We are very happy to be directly importing Can Mayol Loxarel cavas, as we think that their range is amongst the most interesting and the highest quality not only in the region, but in all of Spain. This is an absolutely wonderful, delicious Cava Brut Rose with distinctive red fruit characteristics of strawberry and red cherry, not only in the mouth, but in its high-profile aromatics. Dry, clean, and crisp across the palate, this Gem finishes with a mouthwatering set of flavors. The Bean has informed me that we need cases of this brilliantly produced Gem before the summer ends. It will be our house sparkler for however long it is around. You should not miss this beauty.

This is our go to household pink bubbly. It is unapologetically dry, yet so flavorful, explosive and authoritative on the palate, that it is hard to believe we are dealing with under $15 bubbles here. Tangy red fruits, perhaps a suggestion of hibiscus, combine with a nice bead and pleasing texture to make this such a great sparkling wine for the money. As this is a DI, I have been to the property, seen the care with which these vines are grown and the wine is made, and can only say that all of the Loxarel wines, including this one, have my highest recommendation.

This is a bone dry and serious bottle of bubbly offered at a ridiculous price. With its sophisticated bead, laser like red fruit flavors of cherry and berry and steely finish, this would be right at home with the classiest of fare. Try this with surf & turf or sushi and don't be embarrassed by the price.

Bright berry fruit on the nose, this will be great with a plate of custardy French Toast topped with a mix of macerated berries and a dollop of whipped cream.
