2012 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese
This aromatic Riesling is gorgeously floral, but not cloying or perfumy, with enticing hints of honey and candle wax. It’s lush and ripe on the palate, with concentrated flavors of tangerine and yellow cherry, along with a streak of lemony acidity that extends the finish. Editors’ Choice. —A.I.
A little stinky nose - very different from the Graacher Himmelreich. So crunchy and timid and in reserve. Stony but very backward. Needs such a lot of time! Very clean and brisk on the finish. 17.5/20 points.
92 points, Mosel Fine Wines, the independent review of Mosel Riesling: "This delivers a great nose which is driven by yellow fruits (rather than the usual white ones) blended into telltale flowery scents. The wine is comparably rich on the palate (by the standards of this Estate) and leaves a fresh and fruity feel of fine spices in the long and harmonious finish. This is a nice wine made in a lightly Auslese style, even if the feeling of sweetness is that of a Spätlese. 2022-2042." The steep, grapevine-spiked slopes of Wehlener Sonnenuhr comprise among the most iconic vineyards of the Mosel. From the cellar of J.J. Prüm, this is a perennially classic, collectible Riesling.
