2011 Bernabeleva Navaherreros Blanco Vinos de Madrid

SKU #1145415 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

(50% roussanne, with albillo, macabeo and other sundry varieties planted in the vineyard): Pale gold. Smoky, mineral-laced orchard and citrus fruit aromas show very good clarity. Spicy and precise, with good heft to its pear and tangerine flavors. Finishes sappy and very long, with resonating minerality and a touch of honeysuckle. (10/ 2013)

A blend of 60% Grillot and 40% Macabeo. The closest varietal analogy I can use is Chenin Blanc to describe this wine. It has a rich texture but vibrant acidity. It has orange peel aromas and flavors as well as flavors of quince and a Pink Lady apple tartness to it. The wine lingers and lengthens on the palate. It's awesome!

Spain

- With more land under vine than any other country in the world, Spain is the great sleeping wine giant. In recent years, a great deal of money and passion has been poured in the burgeoning Spanish wine industry, helping to improve quality among its vast array of wines from sparkling Cava to Sherry to Rioja Gran Reserva. The most important red-wine-producing regions are Rioja, Ribera del Duero and Navarra in the north and Priorat and Penedes in the northeast.
