 The 2012 Chardonnay Charm Acres is an exuberantly fruity effort displaying hints of tropical fruits, white peaches, no evidence of oak, and crisp, fresh, pure flavors. While not particularly complex, it will provide satisfying drinking over the next several years. It should be immensely popular among consumers. (RP)  (12/ 2013)

K&L Notes

Based in Lompoc but founded by two Pacific Palisades natives (hence the name), Pali quickly developed a following for their charming and value-oriented Pinot Noir, but they make some irresistible Chardonnay as well. The 2012 "Charm Acres" Chard is 100% Sonoma Coast fruit, with lots of just ripe, juicy Chardonnay character. It was for ten months in 25% new oak but you barely notice the oak - this is all about fresh fruit flavors balanced by mouthwatering acidity. Winemaker's notes: "A big impressive Chardonnay with toasty oak, bread dough, lemon curd and lime zest. Rich with lively acid and great weight, mineral laden and hints of litchi and pear on its long finish."

Pale golden yellow in the glass, with stone fruit and nectar aromas of white peach and Fuji apple coming through. The palate is a bit more intense with loads of flavor and even a touch of baking spice. Bright, with balanced acidity, this flavortown-packed Chardonnay is a kicker for any $30-$40 Chardonnay on the rack. If you place this in a blind tasting it will beat some of your favorite big brand Chards! Absolutely awesome!

- It's hard to believe that up until about 30 years ago, this extremely popular varietal hid behind the veil of geographical names like Chablis and Puligny-Montrachet. Now grown all over the world and bottled by its varietal name, Chardonnay has achieved a level of branding unlike any other wine.
