2011 Corsa Sella Ronda Teroldego Rosso

SKU #1143964

From a single vineyard of 20-30 year old Teroldego vines in Trentino, this Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT is an important historical wine for the region. Teroldego is an indigenous variety that has been cultivated in the region since ancient times. The vineyard is farmed sustainably and the grapes fermented in stainless steel before being aged in French oak for 10 months before bottling. From the winery: "This Teroldego has an intense, violet-toned ruby color which becomes garnet with age. Intense and intriguing violet scented fruit characters, typical of this wine, dominate the nose, becoming full, ethereal and persistent as the wine ages. The palate is warm and sappy with a pleasingly bittersweet aftertaste, well balanced with a good tannin structure."

I'm not normally enamored with Teroldego, more often than not I find there is too much tannic extraction for the body, but this wine is a gem. This is a private label and I'm not normally thrilled with building brands that aren't always source specific year after year but this wine was just so good I had to buy it. It has the classic Teroldego nose of bold dark fruit and hints of earth and leather, but this wine's supple palate presence is truly special. Full and easy to drink with great balance and a wonderful finish. Perfect for intense pasta dishes, pork or chicken, give it a try you'll love it. If you're a Cycling fan the label will enliven your dreams.
Drink from 2013 to 2015
