Fuenteseca Reserva K&L Exclusive Extra Añejo Tequila 750ml

SKU #1141553

It's finally happening! After more than two years of planning, false starts, negotiations, tasting, and finally blending, we've finished up our exclusive tequila project with Jake Lustig and Enrique Fonseca, the producers behind the top selling tequila we carry: the 1146 Añejo. Fonseca is an anomaly in the tequila world. He was the only producer in the entire region with the foresight to use refill Bourbon barrels and put spirit down for a long-term aging process. While other companies might tell you that the oldest tequila in the world is ten years old, it's only because they don't know about Enrique Fonseca's treasure trove of old casks, most far more than 11 years old. Our original intent was to bottle one single barrel, much like we do with whisky, but after tasting through these ancient selections we realized a blend was the best way to go. All had unique flavor profiles, unlike any other tequila we'd ever tasted before, so as long as we combined them well we'd be in great shape to offer our customers not only the oldest tequila ever made, but also one of the best tasting. We ended up with a marriage of 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, and 21 year old tequilas in the final product and it's jawdropping stuff. The nose is a blast of pepper, agave, sea salt, and caramel. The first sip is rich, but never sweet or supple, moving quickly to savory herbs and spices, The finish is long and soft with butterscotch and white pepper. This is historic tequila, epic in every way possible. Orale!

This is the perfect extra anejo Tequila. It has nice citrus and salty aromas. In the mouth, the extended aging adds a deep brandy-like richness to the typical citrus and spice flavors.

This is something new, something that you may not be ready for, I wasn't. I've tasted a lot of high end Tequila and I've always liked Jimmy Buffet and Sammy Hagar as singers or Justin Timberlake as an actor, but I've never been enchanted with the smell of new oak unless it is in a piece of furniture and I've heard people use the word smooth so many times that I think they must have been raised on Jello or have no teeth. Tequila for me has always lacked that one extra…je ne sais quoi… that great Cognac, Armagnac and Single Malt whisky seem to have in their back pockets, but after tasting this Tequila it is obvious what they’ve been missing.... age. This unbelievably delicious spirit has taken Tequila to a new level, this is creating a new category of spirits that hasn’t existed before...and it is worth the price.

Never have I received such feedback about a spirit we've offered at K&L like I have about the Fuenteseca. I knew that the tequila was good (because just tasting the various components you knew you were playing with magical stuff), but I never expected people to go so crazy for this stuff. I've received more than 100+ emails from people writing back to talk about how much they enjoyed drinking the Fuenteseca, many of whom said it was by far the best tequila they'd ever tasted -- and maybe the best tequila ever made. I can't go that far in my own praise, but I will say that there is nothing else like this on the tequila market and I don't know that there ever will be. The only producer with 20+ year old tequilas in his arsenal is Enrique Fonseca, and so far he's only releasing them to K&L.
