2012 Viña Cobos "Felino" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright, dark red. Currant, mocha, cedar and dark chocolate on the subdued nose; less scented than the merlot. Then sweet, supple and seamless, with an inviting creamy middle framed by spicy energy. The flavors of black cherry, herbs and smoke linger on the suavely tannic finish. This, too, punches above its class.
Well-balanced, with fresh acidity supporting the cassis and cherry skin fruit character. Accented notes of slate and mocha fill the finish. Drink now.
This is our favorite in Paul Hobbs' Felino line-up, a wine where Hobbs truly shows his experience and skill working with Cabernet Sauvignon. Red fruited, with supple, round tannins and nice freshness, this is a Cab that shows the grape's continued promise when grown in well suited Mendoza sites. (Joe Manekin, K&L South American wine buyer)
