2011 Domaine Louis Jadot (Duc de Magenta) Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Clos de la Garenne" (Pre-Arrival)
Jadot's 2011 Puligny-Montrachet Clos De La Garenne is striking. Deep, intense and beautifully layered, the 2011 emerges from the glass with pointed, Riesling-like hints of crushed rocks and minerals, followed by a mélange of yellow stone fruits. This is another massive, powerful wine built for the cellar. Tar, smoke, licorice and a host of dark flavors add an element of gravitas on what is a decidedly brooding Puligny.

This is every bit as elegant with refined aromas of citrus, white orchard fruit, spice, wet stone and dried rose petal. There is excellent mid-palate concentration to the round, rich and impressively complex flavors that exude a fine minerality on the intensely saline-infused finish. This is strikingly stylish and beautifully well-balanced though note that patience will definitely be required.

Bright lemon-yellow. Complex aromas of citrus peel, pear, minerals and anise. Juicy, brisk and penetrating, with lovely inner-mouth floral character to the delineated fruit and mineral flavors. Finishes with very good sneaky length and a firm citrus spine that calls for four or five years of cellaring. Pungent and backward for this bottling. This vineyard, along with the Abbaye de Morgeot and Caillerets, were affected by both spring frost and hail in 2011, noted Frederic Barnier
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2011 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne Duc du Magenta has superb precision and minerality on the nose with just a hint of blackberry leaf creeping in. The palate has a spicy opening, a little more fatness than Jadot’s fellow 2011s, but it retains that keen thread of acidity. Good substance on the finish that lingers in the mouth almost like a Chassagne. Very fine.
