2011 Bodegas M Albarino - Querida (Previously $22)
The Albariño is a shy grape with very low yields both in the vineyard and the winery. This lack of productivity was the reason that it was never grown much outside of Spain (and a little in northern Portugal). Alan realized that Edna Valley was a perfect home for Albarino and insisted that it be planted there nearly a decade ago. The result is the American rebirth for the variety. In The Edna Valley, vines are planted to bud wood Alan selected from Galicia, at the Paragon Vineyard. George Donati farms 40 acres of Albariño, and Alan goes through the vineyard with George hand selecting those parcels that will best combine to produce the rich, creamy, citrus and pineapple fruit that characterize our Bodegas M Albariño. Our wine is unique in that it spends eight months in one year old and two year old French oak. This endows the wine with a rich underpinning to support the racy fruit attack, and gives the Albariño Querida a long, creamy finish. This wine is distinctive in its complexity and integration. Bodegas M Albariño 2011 Querida recalls the classic wines of Rías Baixas only, perhaps, better.
