2012 Silvano Follador "Cartizze" Prosecco DOCG Brut

Silvano Follador's "Cartizze" is a single vineyard offering, kept bright and lean thanks to a low dosage, and it takes the place of Champagne at the table just beautifully. Creamy and crisp, seemingly disparate notes come together seamlessly on this peach-scented bubbly from Follador. A K&L staff favorite! (Just a note to clear up some nomenclature issues with this brand. Follador has added an extra word to their label, "Nature", I hadn't heard of it before but it means less than 3gpl of residual sugar, so even though their wines are Brut, Brut can be decidedly higher, Nature is a designation that is more definitive. Most Prosecco is Extra Dry and that is 12-20gpl which could go from Dry'ish to outright sweet, Follador is looking to distance themselves from the rest of the pack. This is for the Brut as well as the Cartizze, Follador is one of the very few non Sweet Cartizze (Cartizze is a very large single vineyard, 260 acres, and 20-35gpl) ) Greg St.Clair K&L's Wine Buyer

The Superiore di Cartizze comes from the most famous “vineyard zone” in the region, a 266-acre slope framed by the villages of San Pietro Barbozza, Saccol and Santo Stefano (from where the Folladors hail). This 2012 Cartizze is DRY; I swear smoke left my mouth after the first taste. That does not mean it is not a complex wine. I still get that granny smith apple up front and red apple and a touch of nectarine on the aftertaste. At 11.5%, this is a great wine to serve for all your holiday parties, very crowd pleasing.

This Cartizze has incredible depth and richness. A great aperitif sparkler with antipasti.
