2012 I Stefanini "Selese" Soave

SKU #1137664

I Stefanini is the 20-hectare (50 acre) farm owned by the Tessari family in the heart of the Soave zone. The property has been in their hands since the 1950s. Young Francesco is the winemaker, his father Valentino is the vineyard manager (agronomo). About 10 hectares are under vine, while olive and fruit groves cover the rest of the property. Sèlese, the basic wine from the lower vineyards near their estate, shows the quality of the fruit and the skill of this down-to-earth father-and-son team. This is a clean, refreshing white wine that goes well with many lighter dishes. Makes an excellent aperitif. Delicate perfume with notes of violets, hawthorn and elderberry. Dry, medium-bodied and smooth with almond notes at the finish.

A great discovery by our Italian Wine Buyer, Greg St.Clair! This may be one of the finest Soaves that I have ever tasted. Wet river stone notes are an eminent back feature to this delicious wine with unusual richness and focus for a Soave. Yet, it is refreshing and mouthwatering in the mouth, with perfect acid structure and a clean, crisp finish. The Bean wants this Gem to be one of our house whites for the next six months to a year. 13.0% ABV

Wow! That's what several of us were saying at a staff tasting where this Soave was the first wine we tasted. Pure and fresh, this is a delicious dry white wine. Soave is one of Italy's most popular white wines, probably because the good ones like this are so smooth, light, and easy to drink. This wine comes from an area just east of Valpolicella and the grape is garganega.
