1993 Domaine du Miquer K&L Exclusive Bas Armagnac 750ml

SKU #1136720

Our newest direct import at K&L is Domaine du Miquer, run by Jacques Lasserre. Jacques is a veteran of the business and for years was the distiller for many other producers in the region (remember than many Armagnac producers have no stills and hire other people to distill their wine). He knows the production from the vineyard to the bottle and you can tell it right away when you taste his brandy. They are polished and exquisite in quality. His crazy old still was made in 1900 and continues to create one masterpiece after another. They're also made from 100% Folle Blanche, which has become rare in Armagnac anymore due to the difficulty in growing the varietal versus Baco, Ugni Blanc, or Colombard. The 1993 is absolutely stunning with a beautiful bouquet of warm baking spices and woody barrel notes. The finish has a vibrant Big Red cinnamon note and hint of anise that really gives it pep. This is a very special brandy that matches some of the best we have ever carried from producers like Darroze, Baraillon, and Ravignan. (David Driscoll, K&L Spirits Buyer)

Even at $120 I would say this is a steal. There is so much going on in this refined Bas Armagnac with anise, musky heady floral, toffee, cedar and this long finish with an almost sea salt toffee. This is insanely good.

The 1993 Miquer is richer and a litte more dense than the 1986. Both are delicious but show different aspects of this wonderful producer. The 1996 Miquer smells full bodied with floral and carmel notes. In the mount it is round and lush with hints of christmas spice and other complex flavors. It is hard to deceide which Miquer I liked best.

Conjures up an a evocative compromise between light cigar tobacco, dried flowers, fruit cake, baking spice, new leather, licorice, and dusty vanilla. A wonderfully layered Armagnac, this has a tremendous length and concentration, while simultaneously keeping a certain lightness and refinement. Following its evolution in the glass is pure pleasure; with so much going on, it never strikes you exactly the same way twice.
