Lovely, bright and surprisingly serious Bourgogne rouge, in the style of a Gevrey Chambertin. We cannot tell you who crafted this wine, but it has Becky Wasserman's name on the case, and sells for a fraction of what it would with the more famous name on it. This beautiful unknown is a good deal more serious and far less manipulated than most all of the Pinot Noirs in this price-point. If you are a fan of fruit-bombs and rich, California style Pinot, just move on. This is not for you. But if, like me, you love Burgundy, and wish you could drink it every night, but have not yet won Lotto, then this is exactly your cup of tea! Smoky, mineral, and meaty with red fruits and medium plus acidity. Not generous in the fruit department, but lean and elegant!

An absolute no brainer! In a time where pretty much everyone drinks their wines much too young it is nice to be able to have a wine with a perfect amount of age on it. No, this is not a fruity extracted Pinot bomb. The nose is light with a touch of dust and secondary fruit that have a reserved elegance. There is nice lift on the palate with some dried herbs and delicate red fruits, good tannin structure and a bright finish. Great food wine! Don’t let the price fool ya, this wine is far beyond what the sticker price is.

This wine has aromas of wild thyme, tart cherries, fresh picked raspberries, rhubarb and sweet beets. It offers a very complex nose for what is a ridiculously low price. With a medium body, fine-grained tannins and an elegant aromatic finish there is nothing not to love about this delightful pinot noir.

Well this is just silly. We thought this was good at twice the price, but I guess it's good we waited as the price is just outrageous. This is one of these private labels from a great importer, who found some great fruit sourced from around Nuits-Saint-George. This is a great entry point for Burgundy, it feels authentic with some of the structural elements expect from wines from this legendary village, but a soft approachable side that any pinot drinker would appreciate. Totally worth $10!!!

Here's a lovely and inexpensive "Burgundy Drinker's Bourgogne Rouge". This isn't a California Pinot crossover, it's really Burgundy, so you'll not find loads of sappy fruit here. It has wonderful edge and crispness to it, elegant and crunchy red fruit with just a touch of earthiness lingering below. Good acidity and minerality balanced with the fruit and a great wine for us traditional Burgundy lovers who don't want to spend the big bucks for a Saturday afternoon lunch wine. Grill up some shrimp or roast a chicken and enjoy!

This is a lot of pretty serious Pinot for $10! Not your simple juicy fruity Bourgogne Rouge like the Potel but a more serious, structured soil driven wine. There are nice dusty red fruits but plenty of damp earth, moss and snappy acidity. These are flavors I expect from Burgundy in a much higher price point than this! If you enjoy this style of wine this is a deal not to be missed!

Bright and sparkling acidity, crunchy red fruit notes, and fine and elegant tannins. And to top things off, the wine has a lovely finish and some development since it has a few years in bottle. At least one case is coming home with me. Roast a chicken or grill a salmon, open this, and you will not believe you are drinking wine at this price!

The beautiful unknown. Nice red fruit and good acidity. Lively on the tongue. I shared a bottle with two friends after their haunted house extravaganza. The wine color matched the fake blood they were both covered in. Very enjoyable bourgogne.

Pinot Noir

- One of France's most legendary grapes and the grape that earned Burgundy its reputation. The parent of varietals like Pinot Gris/Grigio and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir is blue to violet to indigo in color with relatively thin skins, and it is said to have been cultivated in France for more than 2,000 years. At its best, Pinot Noir creates elegant wines that are filled with primary red fruit aromas and flavors while young, revealing with an array of secondary characteristics like earth, smoke, violet, truffle and game with age. The varietal is also known, perhaps better than any, for its ability to translate terroir, or a sense of place. While the best Pinot Noir still comes from Burgundy, it is being produced with increasing success in cooler climates around the world. In France, it is part of the trifecta of grapes that can go into Champagne, and it is also grown in Alsace, Irancy, Jura, Savoie, Lorraine and Sancerre. Outside of France it is produced under the names Pinot Nero and Blauburgunder in Italy's mountainous regions, as Spätburgunder in Germany and as Blauburgunder in Austria. In the US, Pinot Noir has found suitable growing conditions in the cooler parts of California, including Carneros, the Russian River Valley, the Anderson Valley, the Sonoma Coast, Monterey County, the Santa Lucia Highlands and Santa Barbara County, as well as in Oregon's Willamette Valley.
